Michael C. Ndinechi is a Professor of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). He earned his PhD in 2008, with specialization in Communications Engineering. Over his career, he’s held several leadership and administrative roles: head of department, associate dean, dean of the School of Electrical Systems Engineering Technology (SESET) at FUTO, and Director of the university’s Information and Communications Technology Centre (ICTC). Previously (2010–2014), he served as Director / CEO of the Electronics Development Institute, Awka (ELDI) under the National Science and Technology Agency, where he worked on electronics development, embedded systems, and building capacity for local industry. His interests, research and vision His research interests include algorithms for energy conservation in digital systems, modeling and simulation of wireless sensor networks / IoT, microcontrollers, communications networks planning and management, digital systems, instrumentation, and related areas. He has championed the idea that Nigeria should invest more in science, technology, and indigenous electronics/embedded-systems capacity and not just importing technology but building local manufacturing and design capacity. He advocates for youth skill acquisition: beyond university degrees, graduates should leave school ready for industry or R&D, a mindset he sees as critical for national development. In November 2025 he publicly criticized the rigidity of the university curriculum in Nigeria. He argued that because the curriculum by the National Universities Commission, NUC is uniform and outdated, universities can’t innovate or adapt quickly especially in emerging fields like artificial intelligence (AI). Premised on this, he has set up Ebony Educational Consult as a platform to assist Academics, Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Skilled Nigerians (both in diaspora) to reach out to many who may be eager for knowledge.
